with Epu. I have never been exactly str8 edge (for the record I'd like to see legalization starting with marijuana and proceeding cautiously from there). But watching Johnny Depp act like he was under the influence of mescaline, acid and even ether, while occasionally amusing, mostly nauseated me. Sometime during the first hour, I gave up and went to bed.Seems likely lately everyone is trying to show me a video of someone effed up on drugs. It must be the mom in me, because I hate watching this stuff! I even felt creepy watching the famous "kid loopy after the dentist video."
And then I finally looked up the Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman video after seeing Ben Stiller spoof it at the Oscars. OK, I laughed a couple times at both "performances."
But I'm also pissed off. I want to know a) Why would the Letterman show put this guest on just to mock him when he is so obviously incapable of doing the job? and b) Why is it funny to make fun of a guy who is obviously in a bad way, when his brother already died from drugs? Will Ben Stiller and David Letterman give eulogies at Joaquin's funeral?
I guess Joaquin Phoenix brings out the mama bear in me because I'll always think of him as the troubled, hurting little boy in Parenthood
. (Back then his name was Leaf.)Maybe I'm sucking all the fun out of an anemic February entertainment scene, but when someone comes up for public ridicule, it wouldn't hurt to remember that they, too, were once somebody's little boy or girl.
